Self-care tips for 2020

October 22, 2020

As the pandemic continues to disrupt lives, dominate the news, and take up real estate in our minds, it’s easy to become stressed. Whether you’re helping friends and family abroad (Check the latest exchange rates here) or getting by day-to-day, here are 3 easy tips to combat stress in these unprecedented times.

Limit your news and social media intake

According to the American Psychological Association, two-thirds of Americans (68%) say current events are a significant source of stress in their life. If following the news or scrolling through social media is causing you anxiety, limit your consumption. While it’s good to stay informed, give yourself permission to take a break.

Stay active

Avoid dwelling on things you can’t control and take action on things you can. Instead of fixating on the daily news, find an activity that you enjoy and spend time doing it. Getting involved in issues meaningful to you or simply going for a walk to release energy can do wonders for your mood.

Connect with others

Spend time with the people you love. Research shows people who use friends or family members for emotional support during stressful times cope better than people who isolate themselves.

Don’t let 2020 get you down. Using these tips can help you manage your stress and anxiety. Even as you’re taking care of friends and family abroad, remember to take care of yourself.
