Job benefits and amenities are top of mind for employees — as many as 80% say they’d choose additional benefits over a pay raise. While a shift toward more perks and greater employee freedom may intimidate companies relying on traditional HR practices, Pangea Money Transfer is embracing the change. We view benefits as a way to reward our employees’ hard work, and a key method for creating a more engaged, connected and, ultimately, productive workforce.
Pangea develops employee-facing programs in the same way we approach our remittances app — through strong relationships, open communication, and regular feedback. As we grow, we are working to add new benefits and perks based on employee surveys and one-on-one feedback. This direct communication approach has already produced several new benefits, including a gym reimbursement program, more flexible remote work options and an expanded parental leave policy.
On top of that, our ongoing investment in employee satisfaction earned us a spot on Built In Chicago’s “50 Best Small Places to Work in Chicago.” While that honor means a lot to us, what we truly value is continuing to build and support our passionate, driven and talented workforce. By understanding what attracts people to startups and using employees’ perspectives to guide our benefits, we deliver in the areas that matter most to them. Here are some examples of how Pangea is reimagining the perks and benefits that will bring the most value to our employees.
Health and wellness
We know that healthy employees are happy employees, and we’re proud to offer 100% employer-paid premiums for healthcare, dental and vision, as well as contributions to health savings accounts. We also incentivize wellness by reimbursing gym memberships, fitness equipment and race-entry fees.
Everyone at Pangea is committed to their jobs and creating the best product possible, but we understand and respect that employees have lives outside of work. Through generous vacation, work from home, and parental-leave policies, we ensure our employees truly have a work-life balance. We offer a minimum of 22 paid vacation days for everyone on top of 5 personal days, unlimited sick time, and paid sabbaticals for four-year employees.
Pangea is a close team, with a shared passion for making a positive impact in our customers’ lives. We work hard, move fast and laugh a lot — and our office culture reflects that. Employees appreciate the stocked kitchen (full of snack favorites and frequently replenished La Croix), but we also make time to come together after hours. From happy hours to recreational clubs, we take our leisure seriously. Our employees keep us moving forward, and we reward team members for accomplishments through “Pangea Props,” a program that allows employees to reward each other for exhibiting key company values including #kindness, #empowerment, #introspection, #accountability, etc. With so much time working together toward a shared vision of making money transfers better, we think it’s important to celebrate together, too.
A mission that matters
Our employees appreciate that we are motivated by a mission to truly do good and empower our users to gain financial independence. That passion remains a driving force behind everything we do and every decision we make. Our daily work is making a difference in our customers’ lives, and powering new opportunities across the world. And we welcome anyone who wants to help us change the way money is moved across borders.
Pangea thrives on outside-the-box thinking and a desire to try new things. This approach extends not only to our product but throughout our workplace and the culture we’ve created. Through providing benefits our employees want, rewarding hard work and developing office camaraderie, we are assembling a high-performing team where each member contributes to the company’s success and mission.
